When seen from below, i.e., underwater, the ice cover of the Arctic environment has a chaotic profile. It results into an unaccustomed degree of multi-path propagation of hydro acoustic signals. In such an environment, classical single-carrier modulation techniques produce mitigated results. Maritime Way Scientific Ltd. and Carleton University are working together to design a multi-carrier modem adapted to hydro acoustic communications in Arctic-like conditions.
